Stick Sparring Rules and Regulations:

 

Goal:

To dominate the round while using offensive and defensive single stick fighting skills. Athletes must do this without touching any other part of their anatomy to the ground other than their feet while staying on the Lei Tai competitive surface. Athletes will need a Sof-Stx 28” Unbreakable Stick to participate in this event. All equipment is subject to inspection by Tournament officials.

 

Time Limits:

Three 1 minute rounds with a 30-second break in between.

The athlete who scores the best two out of three rounds wins the match.

In case of a tie, there will be a Sudden Death Round where the first athlete to score points wins the match.

 

Techniques:

Stick attack and defense

Trapping and holding

 

Legal Striking Areas:

Head

Torso

Arms

Legs

 

Illegal Striking Areas:

Neck

Groin

 

Illegal Techniques:

Qinna or Joint Locking of any kind

Pinching and Scratching

Hair Pulling

Excessive Grappling

Groin Cup (for men)

 

Optional Equipment:

Chest Gear (for teens and younger ONLY – Adults must experience the pain!)

Hand Protection (Hockey Gloves e.g.)

Forearm, Elbow, and/or Knee Pads

 

Points:

Points will not be given, but the frequency of strikes and the ability to control and neutralize the opponent will be taken into consideration to determine the winner of the match.

 

Penalties:

1st Illegal Technique                                                       One Warning

2nd Illegal Technique                                                      Second Warning

3rd Illegal Technique                                                      -2 points

4th Illegal Technique                                                       Disqualification

Blatant disregard of Referee’s commands                     Disqualification

Inappropriate conduct by coach or audience                 Ejection from Arena
